People with unrealistic expectations often fail in the Cisco Certified Network Associate Examination. Before the certification exam, a lot of people will have the following expectations:

  • CCNP certification certification is the only chance that I can find a job in IT industry;
  • CCNP certification is my golden key to success;
  • Achieving CCNP certification, I will obtain the job I have dreamed;
  • CCNP certification is the game rules of IT industry;
  • CCNP certification is a big golden mine….

Are these true? Maybe it is the mistaken concept of the certification that contributes to such unpractical expectations.

In fact, certification exams such as Cisco 642-901 is to test the candidates’ knowledge about some software, logic and the ability to solve the problem, however, virtually all the clients and employees expect rich experience and skills from you. You know that certification exams can not increase your work experience.

In addition, the exam of 642-901 mainly concerns the technical skills, but it is impossible only to depend on the skills to succeed in the IT industry. Therefore, if you wanted to achieve success in the IT industry, you should master not only certain skills but much other knowledge – interpersonal relationships, negotiation skills, teamwork and so on.

Anyway, you should think through before you take the examination, and make sure you have enough time and resource for the examination. You may get more practical experience from the media, the Internet or even your boss.
